What is this Blockchain Hackathon?
The Irish Government is hosting a blockchain hackathon this week to identify and analyze potential real-life blockchain cases in public services.

25 January - 27 January 2019 blockchain Ireland aims to explore how the blockchain can be used in public services to improve existing processes, development, citizen user experience, efficiency and more. The Dublin Innovation Academy is home to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Expenditure and Reform Department.

Ireland's public service 2020 plan focuses on accelerating the digital delivery of public services. The government is committed to promoting innovation culture in our public service, as well as maintaining innovation in policy design and service delivery.
A solution to validate central statistical office (CSO) data with appropriate security and privacy controls
Participants will be presented with potential public services business cases and issues to solve for two days. These use cases and business issues:
- Health, safety and environmental (HSE) medical device monitoring;
- State aid monitoring;
- A solution to validate the central statistics office (CSO) data with appropriate security and privacy controls;
- A solution for the transparency and traceability of transactions for Ireland's transport infrastructure;
- (PfG) commitments to improve the quality of existing processes used by the government (PfG) office program to collect information from all 17 state departments and to avoid inefficiencies, job duplication and human error.
Teams will brainstorm potential blockchain-based solutions. At the end of the Hackathon, you will then be awarded an award for the best solution available for evaluation for the official project development / implementation.
From the blockchain community in Ireland to master and guide the participating teams to promote cross-functional cooperation between experts, government, academia and the private sector. These include representatives from Ireland, Ambrosus and the University of Dublin.
Ministry of Finance of Ireland, in March 2018, on the blockchain and its digital currencies working group Since its launch, it has actively participated in the discovery of the blockchain. The purpose of this working group is to promote Ireland as an innovative target for projects, consumers and investors to provide clarity and blockchain related issues in technology related issues.
